If you’ve been following our blog you know we love to highlight people who are doing great things for curvy women everywhere. One of the latest examples of this is Christian Siriano, a clothing designer who’s stumbled into a bit of fame. Recently he’s been called out as a designer for just about everyone.
NPR recently did a great interview with Christian which revealed a lot about his current work and the history of where he became inspired. He began young and has been extremely successful even though he’s only 31 but it’s not surprise when you look at some of this clothing.
Many famous women wore his dresses during this year’s Emmys including the first lady, Michelle Obama. His clothing has reached the likes of shoe chains like Payless and clothing lines like Lane Bryant to name two.
During the interview, NPR had the opportunity to ask Christian a few questions and delve into his background of clothing design. During the interview he mentioned that his “inclusive design goes back to the women in his family.” He had a mother with curves and sister with none and the contrast gave him a lot of insight into designing for all shapes and sizes. In Christians own words following the launch of his company,
“We just had every size customer coming asking for things. So it just felt very normal from day 1 in the company.”
He spends some great time commenting on design and his personal philosophy during the interview, saying things like, “We have certain dresses that look better if you have more of a bust or more of a hip” among other things. To read all of his responses, check out the full interview over at NPR.
